Current composition activities
Giancarlo Scalia is currently composing a work for quintet (fl/clar/vln/cel/pno), a commission by l'Ensemble Paramirabo. The piece will be premiered by that ensemble in March 2012.
He recently finished the composition of a new work for solo piano entitled Akme that is scheduled to be premiered by the composer at his undergraduate recital in May 2012. He also completed his piece for solo violin that is entitled Dialogue(s).

New work for solo violin
Giancarlo Scalia is currently composing a new work for solo violin as part of a project with Ensemble Transmission. The piece will be played by the ensemble's violinist, Alain Giguere, in a concert-conference in April 2012.

Premiere of Un Fou
As part of the opening concert of the IPPI Foundation, one
Giancarlo Scalia's vocal compositions will be premiered by the soprano Rébecca Arrouvel with the composer at the piano at the Maison des Jeunesses
Musicales du Canada in Montreal. Works by French composer Philippe Démier will also be premiered and performed.

Current composition activities
Giancarlo is currently composing a new work for soprano, french horn and piano that should be completed by May 2011 and premiered later this year. It is on a poem by the French symbolist poet Albert Samain (1858-1900).

Premiere of Sonata for cello and piano
Giancarlo Scalia's compostition Sonata for cello and piano (2010) will be premiered in February at the third CéCo 2010/2011 season concert by the cellist Julie Hereish and the composer at the piano. The piece will also be performed again later that month.

Recording of Demier melodies
Giancarlo Scalia and soprano Rebecca Arrouvel recently created the world premiere recording of a set of melodies by the French composer Philippe Demier. A performance of these pieces is being planned for September 2011.

Giancarlo Scalia's compostition Cri (2010) was premiered at the opening 2010/2011 CéCo season concert by the flutist Yovanny Betancur Santa.

This composition is dedicated to the Canadian composer Jacques Hétu, who passed away in February 2010.

Premiere of Voler, pero no podar
The short film Voler, pero no podar, directed by Raimundo Morte and scored by Giancarlo Scalia, will have it's first Montreal screening on September 24th. The premiere will be held on the 9th and 10th of October in Barcelona as part of the 2008 Liber Foire Internacional del Libro.
